Selling car on Autotrader - is this dodgy?

Hello, I am selling a car on autotrader and have received this email...

I am okay with the price but am from Cairo and the payment will be by Cheque only, as i have a contact in UK who will make payment to you on my behalf by Cheque drawn from UK bank. so if you are okay with this, get back to me asap with your details needed for the address in of the Cheque such as below:

As regards the shipment, i have a responsible shipping agent that will come for pick up as soon as you received your money and confirm this to me, i will ask my shipper to come for the pick up asap..

    Yes its a scammer. Either ignore, send offensive email back or play along to waste their time, whichever you see fit! :p

    Thanks, thought so. Out of interest what do they do? I wouldn't part with the car until the cheque was cleared obviously.

    Usually the cheque bounces a few days/weeks after you think it's cleared.

    And they pay you, with extra for you to pay the shipper with your own cheque, so you lose that as well.

    Autotrader has a whole bit on its site detailing the different known scams, this is one of them, and tells you how they get you. You should use that part of the site to notify them as it asks.
