Closing a CC that has credit balance

in Credit cards
Going to close a Sainsburys card next month once the annual cashback has been applied to the account. In addition to this as I have just paid off the balance a couple of weeks ago, I notice they have also taken the usual direct debit so eventually the card will be about £130 in credit. When I phone up and cancel card will then send this as a cheque or do I have to 'spend' on the card to reduce the balance down to zero?

They should send you a cheque for the credit. I have closed two credit cards with credit balances and that is what happened I have a cheque from Capitol One for 1p from one of them (Not cashed, framed)
I always close credit cards in writing as well, that way you can formally request that they send any credit balance to you0 -
My boyfriend has been in credit for 6 months by about 30p. It must cost them more in postage to keep writing to him every month to tell him that. So it's one last laugh on them. :rotfl:2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I have closed a Yorkshire bank, Egg and Barclaycard credit cards over the years, each time with a credit balance. Each time the company has simply transferred the money to my bank account. I'm sure if you just ring them up and ask them to do this they should oblige.0
