Removal Companies/Van

Hi,
I'm looking to move some furniture, (but not the whole house) from my mum's house in Sheffield to a new house I'm buying in Newcastle.
Trying to work out how expensive it will be around to get a removals company and if anyone had any recommendations/tips?
Both houses are two storeys, ground floor access.
Looking to move either option 1 or 2:
1) 2 beds, 3 seater sofa, futon, delicate games table, piano, 2-3 wardrobes, couple of small boxes of things eg. cutlery.
2) 2 beds, 3 seater sofa, futon, couple of small boxes e.g cutlery
We may just hire a van but not looking forward to all the lugging about!
Thanks in advance!
Sandie

If you are hiring a van, use a van size calculator to help work out what size of van you need, Sixt.co.uk have one for example although for heavy items such as the piano a Luton box van with a tail lift would be the answer.
Also consider parking, if you van park outside both houses then the distance you have to lug things about may not be too bad.
Book a van online for the best discounts, you should get up to 20% discounts with the national providers and I am sure this 'do it yourself' approach will be cheaper than hiring a removals company.

also check gumtree
and if some company is doing a Newcastle to Sheffield run - they might book you for the way back (with a discount)0 -
if you are going to use a van you may as well take it all.. but.. moving the upright (?) piano is a very skilled affair if you have never done it before - i had mine moved by removers and if i had to have it moved up many steps they would have had to use 4 men due to health and safety regs... upping the price massively...
you would be much better off getting one off freecycle once you move in ...0
