I think the general public need to be retrained when buying diesel cars as, unless you're doing
30,000 miles a year then there is no point getting diesel.

So many customers say "Oooooh but its the economy..."

Problem is, you are just replacing one generalisation with another. Better would be to research the issue, for example using Parker's petrol vs diesel comparison
    http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/petrol-vs-diesel/

This shows a huge variation on the number of miles you need to drive to make Diesel the cheaper option, with a few cases where the diesel is cheaper to buy and run.

Of the hundreds of diesel cars I've sold, 9 times out of 10 the person is doing about 9000 miles a year.

It's not just the economy but the far better driveability of modern diesels thanks to the torque they deliver. I had a test drive of a new Meriva 1.4 turbo the other day (the 120bhp version) which in bhp terms is 20% more powerful than my current 1.7CDTi Meriva, but the driveability of the new one was so inferior. Driving up an incline in 4th gear at 40mph and accelerating showed the petrol engine to be so sluggish. Taking the same incline at the same speed and gear in my diesel car and what a difference! It shot up the hill by comparison to the 1.4 petrol turbo.

I have a Ibiza 1.4TDI and have just dicovered the problem with these filters, my wife uses the car for around town and a couple of 10 mile trips to work. There are products on the market now that you add to the diesel to keep the filter clean and regenerate it i.e. Halls dpf filter cleaner and regenerator it costs £9.99 and you add it every 2000 miles has anyone had success using these products?
