Britax Excel Travel System

Hi all,

We have been given a Britax Excel Travel System for our newborn, in good condition. I am trying to figure out how it works :o we need it in the lie flat position. Can anyone help?

Imagine the system sat upright, like a chair - there is the back support, and the seat part. Putting it into lie-flat position, the back-support drops back to almost horizontal, but seems to remain slightly elevated (not quite flat).

Presumably with a newborn they lie facing you, so they are actually lying on the 'seat' part (flat), with their legs just touching the slightly-elevated-back-support? If so, this 'seat' bit also contains a buckle right in the middle which would be used to clip an older child into it when it's used as a seat. This would be right in the middle of the baby's head and doesnt seem to detach.

I am a bit confused about how this is all supposed to work.Has anyone got one of these who can advise? I can take some photos if my description is confusing.

Many thanks! :)

I think a picture would help.

A clip by the head doesn't sound right. Are you sure you are not trying to put your child in upside down? :D The proud grandfather did that in a car seat travel system with my eldest.
  • Your baby would only be facing you if you use the car seat on the chassis. As the pushchair is not rear facing you would be putting your baby in upside down if he was to face you. Your baby should be put in so you can fasten the straps round him correctly:)

I had this travel system with ds - baby does not face you (unless in the car seat like previous poster says). You need to recline the seat fully and then lay baby in.

I used to have one of these too, only way baby can face you is in the car seat when its clipped on, in pushchair mode baby faces outwards,

ok here are a few images.

First, the seat upright for a child - http://tinypic.com/r/11sfjiq/5
Then we flatten the back to make it suitable for a baby - http://tinypic.com/r/10zvgpu/5
But in profile you can see that in the lie 'flat' position, the back does not actually go flat; however the seat part is flat - http://tinypic.com/r/24ne4b6/5
Viewed from above, if you were to use this part, there is a buckle in the way! http://tinypic.com/r/2s82w5s/5

NB - there is proper enclosure to wrap all around the end to make the whole thing more 'pram' like, I took it off in order to take decent pictures.

Ok useful, thank you. In that case, what do you think of the profile (http://tinypic.com/r/24ne4b6/5) which shows the back doesnt seem to go properly flat. should it?

Thats what mine was like - not completely flat. I used it for ds from a couple of days old and he seemed fine in it - although did sometimes use the car seat attachment if we wasn't going far.

ETA: The pushchair looks lovely by the way. I can highly recommend, was brill.

Yeah as ethelsmum says mine was like that too, though i dont think i even discovered pushchair mode till he was a few month old lol, i wasnt very clued up on prams then! the best thing about it is the huge basket though!! had a few prams since and never had a basket as big, he used to sleep in that all the time till he was well over 1, x
