I'm looking to buy a printer for work.
It's for a small workgroup (there are 5 of us) and we print on average 1000 pages a month (trying to cut down!!)
Just want a basic mono printer that can be networked with duplex capability. Our recommended supplier is HP but even the IT guys are saying the cheap ones are rubbish and I'm only allowed £200 (maybe £300 to spend on it).
Thanks all

Have a look at this laser printers buyers guide for some information about laser printer brands.
Brother seems to have a couple of models that might be suitable, I think this first one is a good choice as it offers a good specification and includes duplex prints:
Brother HL5350DN Duplex Mono Laser Printer
or this one, seems like a decent spec too and Kyocera Mita are apparently designed for operating cost savings:
Kyocera Mita FS1350DN Mono Laser PrinterShin: a device for finding furniture in the dark.

I would choose the Brother, the Kyocera seems to have reliability problems.
Brother also have some cash back/extended warranty offers on at the moment.0 -
We've standardised on HP printers throughout (about 70-80 printers) at our place. Typical printer at the moment for a small office we go for the HP2055DN networked and duplex (save trees!). Got one in our office and I think they're great.
Although our usage is a bit less than that so maybe think of something in the 4250 range.
Don't forget saving £100 on a printer can mean spending twice that in toners/service etc !0 -

the one we have that died is the HP2150dn and the IT guys commented that it was too lightweight for our use. Our price list doesn't include the 4250 range.

It's a lot less bother with a Brother. Their laser printers are excellent the toners last ages and they are very reliable. Your £200 should buy you a decent low to mid printer and a spare toner cartrige....To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0

if you need a bit of colour try the HP CP3505 with xerox toners0

I always recommend HP for Laser Printers.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Also, train everyone how to use a 'virtual' printer like PDF Creator, that lets you save any document to disk just like it has been printed. It seems to be an instinct to print things to 'keep' them and printing to PDF might satisfy a percentage of people instead of dead tree type printing.0

I go to an IT auction. At every auction are mono laser printers which struggle to make £5. These are the proper office jobs from HP etc, such as HP 2500, 3005 etc, with multiple feed trays etc etc and they're all in full working order. Some of them even print A3 and would have cost several hundred pounds new.0
