hi
im looking to buy a digital slr camera which functions as a camcorder as well, i am more into the photography side of things and just want to film the kids plays and days out, nothing major.
but the camera i want for wildlife, kids, travel and such.
i have never used an slr so i want something fairly easy to understand but i will have help from someone who uses them frequently
would prefer a camera that i can add to with interchangeable lenses
can spend up to £300-£400 maybe more if possible
thanks

The Nikon D3000 comes within your price range, and the D5000 is somewhat over but still a good candidate that you should consider. The camera lens you have makes a lot of difference too so you want to invest in that when you can.
£340.10 - Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera (18-55mm VR Lens Kit)
£498.40 - Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm VR LensShin: a device for finding furniture in the dark.0 -
The D3000 does not do any video function whereas the D5000 does.0

The D5000 has HD camcorder functions, although you would be better off with a dedicated machine IMHO0

The Pentax K-X is a good camera for what you're after. It offers HD Movie recording, and has the great benefit of being compatiable with ALL Pentax K-mount lenses (which date back to 30 years ago), meaning you can pick up some real 2nd hand bargains on eBay.
It is £430 from this seller who is based in the UK and offers a 1 year warranty. You can get it for less than £400 from various HK sellers on eBay, but you loose the benefit of fast shipping and the 1 year warranty.
One of my local camera retailers offer it for £469.99 with a free 2gb SD card. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Depends what you want to spend. The Canon 5D Mark II is second to none, the season finale of House is being shot on it. Seen some amazing results from it.

slightly out of the OP's price range me thinks...the 7D is nearly £1000 body only, the 5D mark ii is £1500 body only
id recommend, any of the sony's within your price range...the A500 / A380
the A350 is quite handy with the flip out screen with live view etc.

Just butting into this thread, I am thinking of buying a Sony A350, how highly do you recommend this camera... I have read all good stuff about it thus far.0
