Insurance for driving a friend's car in Europe

Myself and some friends will be taking a car on to the continent for a week or so and want to share the driving. Apparently, my friend's insurance won't let him put others on temporarily, so what's the cheapest way of getting insurance on this?
I have 3rd party cover on other cars through my policy, but don't think that covers driving in Europe. I've looked at a few web-based temporary cover sites, but the cheapest quote is around £70 which seems a bit steep for a week.
Any suggestions?

Perhaps your friend doesn't want you driving his car but doesn't want to tell you that! He may also want to ensure that any loss of no claims on his policy is caused by him, not other drivers.
If you can get cover for £70 for a week seems pretty reasonable to me - just check what the level of cover is whilst the vehicle is being driven in the EU - this may just provide the minimum required by law in that country which might be different to the UK.0
