cashing cheques

Hi

Can anyone tell me if you are sent a warrant which is like a cheque, can you cash it at the bank you have an account, or do you need to pay it into your account first?

    Who has sent the warrant and is it crossed? And how much might have a bearing as well.

    Its coming from the NS&I, I dont know if it will be crossed as havn't received it yet. It would be for a couple of thousand pounds.

    For that sum it will be crossed and you will have to pay it into your bank account and wait for it to be clear before cashing.

    If you had the option to pay into your bank account (and it seems to be hit and miss as to whether they offer it) that would have been quicker.

    If you are cashing in a bond etc. they have an option to pay it directly into the bank on the form

    If it is a premium bond prize they only give warrants afaik and you need to deposit it like a cheque
