Problems with Quicktime update on Win XP-Pro PC

I use a Dell desktop which runs Win XP-Pro. From time to time I get sent a .mov file from a client who is an architect, to show me something, and then I need to run Quicktime. So I have a version of Quicktime on my pc as most architects use Apple macs.
Recently, the first time for some time, I was sent an Apple generated .mov and found I could not run it. I contacted the architect who suggested I needed to update my version of Quicktime. I did this, and updated to the latest version (7.6?). (It seemed to need a complete uninstall and reinstall to do it so I guess it must have been quite a major upgrade.)
Anyway since then I have had a number of problems on my PC. First of all when I do a warm restart, it hangs. I have to use the f12 option and select Normal to get it to restart. This is definitely only happening since I installed the new Quicktime. Also I tried to download some free software yesterday (from the official MS site) and got a 1316 network error which I have not had before.
Obviously I can de-install Quicktime (well I assume I can) or go back to a recovery point in XP. But are these known issues with the latest Quicktime and is there any sort of workaround? It would be useful to me to be able to run it on my PC.
