TalkTalk

I've had broadband for years with Tiscali without problems. Recentely this changed over to TalkTalk. I was previously getting internet speeds of between 4 and 5 MBps with Tiscali and initially with TalkTalk but was living away for the last year or so and the people that remained at home hardly used the internet. When I came back one weekend i noticed the net felt slow so ran a speedtest which showed a speed of 0.2MBps. It was still the same when i was back the next week so I fired of a complaint/request to get it sorted out.

After various emails I received a phone call (my speed had now slightly improved to about 1MBps, still much lower than i was used to) to sort the problem in which they asked me to test everything on the test socket then they'd call me back. I attempted to get to the test socket but it's in a difficult location in this house so i reconnected everything as it was (my broadband is connected to the first socket that runs off of the main socket) Next thing i received the phone call back and before i could state that i hadn't been able to change the setup to the test socket yet, the lady informed me that she could see it was all working now and to run a speedtest, which i did and sure enough my speed was up at 5Mbps. Phone call ends and within 15 minutes it's back at 1MBps.

Now perhaps this was just a fluke but the cynic in me says that they've been throtttling my bandwidth after observing that it wasn't getting much use while I was away, they've then slightly improved it after i've complained and then in order to make it look like a hardware/setup issue with me they've momentarily sorted it.

I know that sounds a little paranoid and it begs the question, "Why would they do that?" but it just seems incredibly strange that the problem is "fixed" for 10 minutes whilst they believe i'm plugged directly into the test socket and then the problems reappears just after they probably assume i've moved eberything back to how it was.

My mum moved to Talk Talk about 8 months ago and the service she gets on the internet side is shocking. The connection drops 3 or 4 times a day then takes about half an hour to come back on. I'm sick of ringing them on her behalf to try and sort it out as it usually takes over an hour by the time i've been on hold before speaking to someone. I can't wait until her contract is up with them and she can move to a decent provider then I won't be getting phone calls every day asking what she needs to do or if I can come up and look at it for her.

We had broadband with Talk Talk and had problems with the speed of it, etc. The customer service was terrible, they told us we could use 'hotspots' outwith the house (like BT Openzone) and it never worked. We tried to explain it over the phone and they didn't understand what it was, told us we could buy them in the shop which is not true (Carphone Warehouse). I'd never use Talk talk again due to the fact the people at the call centre do not have a clue about technical faults or what products they sell. We actually paid to get out of our contract it was that bad. We are now with BT, the broadband service from them is way better. My only problem the rare occasion we have to contact BT, the call centre people abroad, quite often they do not know how to fix the problem and we end up on the phone for hours. They need better trained staff but I guess thats a general gripe with call centres home or abroad!

I'm out of contract jsut now but only just moved back here so not bothered sorting anything out yet but I think i'll start looking for alternatives just now. I don't mind paying a bit more for a better broadband service but not sure what alternatives are available for the phoneline/inclusive calls at a decent price. I'm about £22 jsut now for line rental + all phone calls free + 8meg broadband.

Been with TalkTalk about three years now. After the waste of money that was NTL/Virginmedia all I can say is...up yours Virgin.

I have had probably three drop outs in all the time I have been with TT. When I had a problem I called the necessary number and usually a voicemail wlil tell me the problem and when they expect a solution

Not a TT employee etc just happy that I get a reasonable speed after the crap NTL/VM cable debacle.

£22 for all that is cheap, you get what you pay for. The cheap ISP tend to have congested service, 2nd rate after care. Talk talk are one such company

Yeah, I think if I could find line rental+ all calls for about £15-£20 i'd move, i've already got another BB provider in mind. I'm more disappointed that it appears they momentarily solved the problem on my account just to make me think it was a hardware issue.

Originally with Pipex- who Tiscali bought, I've ended up on Talk Talk too and have noticed the diabolical difference in service this year. It's been stable connection wise for the last month but prior to that for months was virtually unusable so many times did it drop out.
I'm only getting upto half a meg now too. I was getting 2mb to 3mb prior to Talk Talk taking over ...a company I previously worked for and utterly detest too, so at the end of this month I'm switching elsewhere.
Shame - I was happily with Pipex for years - since 2002 but service with TT is a joke.

I'm with TalkTalk and I would look for another provider if I were you. My connection is rubbish, it drops anywhere up to 4-5 times a day and I have to wait for their Assist and Go to 'fix' it. I switched from Tiscali (before they merged) and I can't wait till my contract runs out so I can change to a more reliable company.

I was a Tiscali customer for 4 years until the dreaded Talk Talk letter came telling me my broadband was going up from £14.99 to £19.99 a month. As I lived in a rural area with broadband speeds of around only 1mb I decided to look elsewhere.

The process of doing so wasn't as simple as it should have been thanks to Talk Talk, who I have to say are probably the most incompetent organisation I have ever dealt with, but I did successfully migrate to Plusnet.

My speed now averages 1.6mb and I've only had one speed issue which was rectified following an email to them. For this I paid £5.99 for the first 3 months and now pay £11.99 per month which means the first year will have cost little more than half of what I'd have paid Talk Talk.
