Having an EEC licence doesen't really affect your premium that much, you don't have to change to a full UK licence, your licence is valid until you are 70 years old the same as a UK licence, in fact if you changed over to a full UK licence it would actually increase your premium at first, as it will be entered as only just having got a full licence. With regards to your NCB, many insurance companies will accept foreign NCB as long as it's officially translated into English, but of course you won't be able to use it on a UK vehicle if your are still using it again your Spanish car insurance. Good luck.
  • Hi Spanishlass!
Originally from Germany, I have been living in the UK for years and am now in the same position as you, never having been insured by a UK insurer before.
I tried to register and insure my left hand drive car from Germany but was put off when the cheapest quote i could get was £1400 a year. So I sold the car (which is not without difficulties either...) and got a right hand drive.
It is an absolute pain to try and get insured as a EU driver, but there are a few UK Insurers who will accept your foreign No Claims Bonus but you will have to ask them individually. I have just spent the last 6 hours doing exactly that and so far Tesco car Insurance and Churchill have confirmed that they will accept No Claims Discount entitlements so long as you can provide a letter from your Insurer in English that states the number of years (not percentage) without claim.

Also Adrian Flux provide specialist insurance and will accept NCD from non-uk insurers.
Having just gone through the same ordeal, I'm afraid the oly way to get a chap deal is to go round every comparison website and then call the insurance companies up individually to find out if they will insure you and accept you no claims discount.

Let me know if you find any other insurers that do this please - Maybe we can compile a list for other unfortunate souls with similar intentions... :)

    Good Luck!

    Dustin.

I would suggest getting a letter from your Spanish insurer to confirm your no claims discount. When we returned to the UK from living overseas with letter from our South African insurer, it was accepted and brought the insurance down to a reasonable level.
