Selling an ex driving instructor car
We've recently bought a 20 month old car that had been previously used as a learner vehicle. We'll probably only keep it until the warranty runs out, so just under 18 months.
When we come to sell do you think it would be better to leave it as a one owner car with the fleet company as the previous owner (easy google to find out what sort of fleet it is) or change keeper to my partner and sell it as a two owner car and make it obvious in ad that one keeper was OH?

If you have bought the car then you have to the notify the DVLA of change of ownership you cannot just leave it registered to the previous owner.0
-
I would also make sure that you are careful with what you say as if you are shown to have deliberately mislead people they could have legal recourse against you when the car goes wrong.0

We have notified the DVLA and it is know in our name. We have two cars - one in each name. However when one of us goes out we just take which ever car is at the end of the drive. So we could quite legitimately swap cars - and have done so once in the past when my wife was using 'my' car 90% of the time. However work locations have since changed meaning we are closer to 50/50 again.
If we were asked about the prvious owner I say quite honestly that it had a fleet company on the log book.0 -
Oh so what your actually asking is can you change it from your OH to you to hide the fact it was an ex fleet car.
You could but if something goes wrong with the car you are opening yourselves upto that person taking action due to the dishonest intent in hiding ownership.0 -
Not sure how drivin school cars are reg'd. If it's a one man band then it could just be in their own name and address.
Rental cars are reg'd in some non descript kind of way to hide this.0 -
Is there a hole in the passenger footwell carpet for dual controls?
Usually a dead giveaway that! (and the first thing I'd look for in a Corsa/Fabia/Fiesta/etc etc etc, regardless of whos bloody name was on the V5 :rotfl:)
Why try to mislead future buyers? Be honest about the reason for the high mileage and the prematurely ruined clutch and you'll get on better when selling it on!0 -
Never seen a driving school car with the full warranty. Are you sure it actually had the full three years, most come with 12 months because of the type of use and the discount to start with.
I've never buy a car if the previous owner had the same family name. I insure my wifes car in my name and vice versa, the only reason to change the V5 is to hide something.0 -
Not always, I did this on my dads Fiesta. My Corsa blew up, my dad had a Fiesta sat there as he was too injured to drive for a few months, so I just put the Fiesta in my name and insured of it my policy as if I had bought the car. When my dad could drive again i bought a Panda and registered the car back into my dads name and he took his own insurance out.0

Never seen a driving school car with the full warranty.
My wifes had 4 new cars now since qualifying as an instructor, all purchased as driving school cars and all with full manufacturers warranty. (2 Fiestas, Nissan Note, and currently Toyota Yaris). The only company that I have heard don't warranty cars used for driver training are Hyundai but haven't actually gone into this. I also know that Renault and Peugeot provide full warranty's for Driving instructors.;)0
