insurance company write to us about 3-4 weeks ago saying pay extra £220, dh calls his bro who says hes going to pay the extra but he hasnt now my car insurance has been cancelled, we dont have £220 to pay and bro in law is refusing

im fuming with dh for doing his t**t of a brother a favour
but even more annoyed an bil for being such a t**t

now ive gotta find new car insurance
the cheapest quote i have for dh with me as named is £ 671 with £350 ex
for me as main and dh as named its £469 with £300 ex
the cheapest way is obviously for me to insure the car in my name but dh needs to be fully comp as he sometimes drives other cars is there anyway i can get around the extra £200

oh yes i will get my own back on bil think paint stripper and flat tyres

This is actually the biggest worry at the moment! People regularly get prosecuted for this. Don't forget there is likely to be photographic evidence of the driver - this could return to haunt your hubby and bil at any time in the future.

    Hi 1more?

Sorry for what you are going through.....im not saying that what is going on in your life is RIGHT , what i am saying is that i sympathise with YOU !

I read your post and couldnt help thinking that sometimes hubbys are just more trouble than they are worth LOL.

My hubby has a tendency to land us in all sorts of bother and like you seem to be doing , its always left to ME to get us out of !

    hopefully you get sorted soon.

ps , dont forget that as you have now had a car insurance policy cancelled , you have to declare this to other companies when you are getting a quote off them .

    First of all two points.

    1) Have you disclosed to the new insurers that you have previously had cover cancelled?

    2) Are you telling them about your OH's points?

    3) Who actually drives the car mostly?

    4) If your OH is a named driver the driving other cars extension is unlikely to be included for him and only you. Further more lots of insurers no longer offer this as standard.

Also check the excess isn't just the voluntary. Sometimes it can be £350 voluntary and £200 standard or such.

I would also strongly suggest you dont seek revenge as if the motive came out your OH would face a perverting the course of justice charge and a potential jail cell.

I think the company didn't cancel the insurance, they wanted extra cash and was turned down, so in effect the OP cancelled the insurance.
My boss received 6 points and a £1000 fine for non disclosure a month ago, so be careful OP

No the insurer cancelled the cover. That is how it works.

Also 6 points for non disclosure? I am not aware of such an offence. Do you mean he lied to his insurer, had the cover revoked and was done for no insurance.

As weirdlittleman has said you're treading on very thin ice here. Most insurers don't offer Driving Other Cars extension and those that do restrict it to the Policyholder ONLY. As the Policy will be in your name, you are the Policyholder only and the DOC cover is not given to named drivers. You OH might find himself uninsured and facing more fines, points and increased future insurance.

It's very rare to get DOC extension for all drivers other than on high net worth policies such as Chubb and Hiscox.
