HELP LEGAL ACTION - IPA and not enough money
I moved house and it took a month or so for my energy supplier to take over the new address.
The supplier at that address wrote to someone else in the house with a different name and so I didn't know about the billing until it was too late.
The usage charge compared to my current supplier is about £80 more than it would have cost me, guessing because they just put me on a standard expensive tarriff. So the amount owing is just shy of £200.
I have sent them a copy of my Bankrupty certificate and whilst this doesn't discount me from paying them, I have an IPA and this is being investigated as I am struggling to cope on my money.
They have written back to me and said that as I am not a customer they cannot accept my offer of £10 a month and a letter from a debt collection agency has added further fees to the debt and is threatening legal action, incidentally received the day before the Utility provider wrote to me
Can anyone offer any advice please.

Are any of the bills you have received related to the period of time you have been at the property, or are they all related to the previous occupant? If it's all before you moved in, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just provide them with the date you moved in and keep requesting that they stop sending you letters addressed to someone else as it's causing distress.Where there's a will, there's a way to get something cheaper from somewhere else!!0
