The Former Treasury chief secretary's message to his successor

I think it is a great opportunity, for the coalition.
They can now make hay saying "Even Labour know they've screwed the country."This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
I think, on balance, that I would probably vote for someone who has a sense of humour against the grey on message relentless and meaningless stodge that is normally churned out.
Boris: The sausage should have Conservative meat in it.
Reagan: Lets nuke Russia.
Even Bush junior: They wave at me, but not with all five fingers.
And to this personal list I am happy to add the "no money left" comment - it's funny guys - it's a joke. This forum can be very hair shirted at times. Please try to remember the election is over, surely no one does politics ALL the time.. do they?0 -
Oh isn't it just hilarious? To make a joke out of what we all now have to suffer for years to come! Oh yes I am splitting my sides! :rotfl:
Just in case anyone wonders I am being extremely sarcastic, but that seems to equate to humour for many.0 -
I didn't realise there was precedent to this. In which case its even funnier (and if I understood from my dad correctly) the last note leaver was a conservative.
If someone explains the precedent above I will admit to being rude for not reading properly as well as ignorant of the history of this.0 -
I think its called black humour...having said that, Labour should be put up against the wall and shot for what they have done to this country, but don't get me started...
And that fat useless !!!!!!! Prescott gets a peerage? why?...."If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0 -
Sarcasm has it's place, particularly where politics is concerned. But one can tire of the rather easy to imitate satire, especially when life imitates art. I believe it's a tradition to write a note to the newcomer when leaving office, and one can imagine the self serving pompous homilies that have been left over the years. Short, sweet and bitterly funny - a handshake of humour. Remember both these guys are politicians - they know the game, they play the game. But in the moment of leaving one guy made a joke, quite a good one. It would have made me chuckle.dealsearcher wrote: »Oh isn't it just hilarious? I've been here before though, accused of taking things too lightly when it's then end of the world. So I'll repeat an old joke from the war.
Air raid sirens sounds. Grandma says "Quick love, down the shelter". Grandpa says "I'll just get me teeth". Grandma says "What do you want those for, it's bombs they're dropping, not sandwiches".
Try laughing in the face of adversity. Otherwise we'll all just get miserable.0 -
The Tories certainly seem prone to self-righteous pompous indignation.0

I'm afraid to tell you there is no money left.
It will take this country many, many years to recover from the Blair/Brown years.
And that pesky global financial crisis.0 -

yeah, sorry, meant last time...when the conservatives were out.....I'm not concentrating on MSE. Confirming my rudeness!:o:o
what I'm saying rally is that no ''camp'' can take any moral high ground over revealing notes or not, or the fitingness of humour over events/money or not. Its been done both ways it seems.0
