daughter's crashed
my daughter crashed last night into a wait for it POLICE CAR!!she was turning right at traffic lights, and the pcs car came towards her n she was blinded by the headlights.anyway she knows it was her fault but has paid for her insurance (3rd party f and t)up front £1200.she's only been driving since april though, and i was wondering if she'd be entitled to some of the premium back to put towards a new car, as she says hers is a write off.sorry to be so dense the world of driving and insurance is a mystery to us both.(I am currently learning to drive so have never dealt with stuff like this before)
Her car was towed away by a recovery firm who want £105 for towing it away, plus £12 for every day they hold it.a guy from the garage is going to see how much damage is done on monday and let us know.
The isurance company have said she can't cancel her insurance if there might be a claim pending but someone else said thats bs as it was insured when the accident happened.HEEEEELLLLLP i'm having a nervo breakdown here!!
insurance company have just said she'd be entitled to £750 but only if the police dont claim against her

you might end up also having to pay the garage to dispose of the car if it is indeed a write off.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0

Astaroth will explain it better than me, but it is normal for the whole year's premium to be payable if you make a claim against the policy even if you have been paying by instalments.
It seems to be pretty standard. I could only cancel my pet insurance when my dog died provided I was not going to make a claim.0 -
When my car was written off the policy was cancelled after the claim was settled, but the insurance company (elephant.co.uk) offered me a refund towards the insurance on my new car as a 'goodwill gesture' after I complained because I was only a couple of months into it, and as the other party was entirely at fault I hadn't even made a claim on my insurance!
The claim/accident wasn't my fault though, so I don't know if that would make a difference. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
My insurance company let me change the car on my policy when mine was written off, but like pboae the accident wasn't my fault. In my case, although I notified the insurers I dealt direct with the third party insurer so my own didn't have any work to do.0

If there is a fault claim (Accident, fire or theft) she will not get a refund but she will be entitled to change the car on the policy, as it will still run for the 12 months you paid for.
There may be an additional premium payable depending on the age/group/value of the replacement car.
When choosing a new car, bear in mind that when she renews next year her insurance is likely to be more expensive due to the fault claim0 -
"Likely"?? Definitely!! :rotfl:0
