Anyone know a way around this? I've tried using TrueCrypt on a pc with restricted access, but it won't work due to needing admin rights on that machine.
Or alternatively could anyone suggest a program that's of similar quality/strength, but doesn't need admin rights?

I don't think it's possible.
I think restricted users can use Truecrypt as normal but it needs to be installed by an administrator0 -
yep sra is right, will anyone with admin rights install it for you?
know of a couple of others but again all need admin rights i', afraid.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
Ah no, it's sat on my usb key, so that it's truly portable (not machine specific)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

wolfman, I have always been a bit wary of encrypted volumes (I lost thousands of files a few years back when an encrypted volume I had got corrupted .. and I found out that my backup was equally corrupted). I have been using a mixture of WinZip encryption and a tool called 'axcrypt'. The nice thing about axcrypt is that it allows you to encrypt a single file without the need for volumes.

hi, I think you can use it there is a version that can be run independantly without the need for an install, I recal reading something about it on the truecrypt website?
Truecrypt seems to be the bes thing out there tbh, I use it all the time when I need privacy. I have yet to come across anything that works and integrates as well. Isued to use zip files for encryption but they are easily identified and there are many 'password recovery' programs for zip files and short pwords are broken quite quickly. They are also inconvenient and your file system will probably created temporary copies of the files when you unzip them, these temp files may be cleared down after but could be recovered with a simple undelete program. You'd never know they had been created!
I suggest reading round the official site https://www.truecrypt.org and for those that dont know what we are talking about, have a look at the background on this introduction to truecrypt.0 -
It is in independent version. The admin rights are needed I think to install some sort of device driver."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

Is having admin rights a problem? Can you use "Run As"?

"Run As"?
Yeah, from what I've seen and googled, you need to have admin rights. I've tried using it (via my usb key) on machines where I've had the typical user rights, and it wouldn't work."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
