Panasonic HDC-SD9 Camcorder

Hello all,
My post is regarding the UK SOGA and 1999/44/EC consumer protection acts and more specifically how to enforce them.
Short story:
I purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder from Amazon.co.uk who up until now I have respected as a responsible etailer. The camcorder was purchased 24th September 2008 and has an annoying beep which is added to the audio track.
The beep is actually the camcorder writing data back to the SD card, it is only picked up on the camcorders microphone when the camcorder is fully zoomed out.
Going back to earlier footage I noticed that the beep was present on the audio track when filming as described above (zoomed out), in all other cases it was not present.
Contacting Amazon for repair or refund has had little success, I've quoted the SOGA and EC directive to which they have quoted it back to me with them pointing out that I have had the camcorder for a substantial period of time and therefore it must have been working successfully. Amazon have appeared to close the dispute.
Disregarding common sense which says that I could not have known about the camcorder fault sooner as the camcorder is used infrequently and the beep is only present under certain conditions (and in most cases I add a soundtrack when editing the footage so it's only relevant when the audio has to be left natural).
How can I press for a decent hearing with this issue or enforce SOGA / 1999/44/EC ?

Thank you for your prompt response.
I feel the the SOGA / EU laws are very poor in clarity.
Normally after I edit the footage I remove the source but there is a chance I will have an archive, I'm guessing that would be sufficient ?0
