Hi Everyone
Hopefully one of you will be able to help me.
My MIL is wanting to move out of her council house in Pembroke to a private rent house in Lincoln. She currently gets housing benefit so if she moved to a private rent would she be entitled to local housing allowance and if so how much would she be entitled to?
Thanks for help!

remember she will only be entiltled to the LHA for a 1 bedroom place if she is on her own, if she has more than 1 bed now check the council for incentives to give it up to move to a smaller place0

It says she is entitled to £480 per month, she could get a 2 bed bungalow for that so will she be able to rent the 2 bed bungalow.
She is currently living in a 3 bed council house if that helps0 -
As has been said, she'd only get LHA for a 1-bedroom place and these are often small flats in undesirable places, unless you're flexible about where you live. For example, I looked through at 1-beds to rent at LHA rate and the only 1-2 nice ones were about 25-40 miles away from where I thought I'd like to be.0

So she wouldn't be entitled to £480 it would be whatever a 1 bed house costs.0

she would only get that amount if she is entitled to full rate. Does she work?0

No she is 70 years old and is on Pension Credit0

Does she realise how insecure private tenancies can be? Is she prepared to move home regularly?0

Usually tenancy agreements are 6 months and after this period the landlord can ask the tenant to leave without giving a reason.Oldernotwiser wrote: »Does she realise how insecure private tenancies can be? Is she prepared to move home regularly?0 -
