can I change my electric metre?

Hi,
not sure if I'm posting this in the right place (first time I've used this site) but could anyone help me out here... I'm moving into a flat that currently has a key electricity metre. I've heard that it's much cheaper to use monthly bills and would like to switch. Am I allowed to do this since I don't actually own the property? Do I need permission from the landlord? Or can I just do it (obviously as long as I get it back the way it was before I move out)?
Thanks in advance

Unless there is a specific clause in your TA, you could, in theory, do as you describe. However, regardless of any such clause, I would recommend you discuss it with your LL first. Everything is easier if all involved agree.0 -
There is no reason why your landlord should object but it is only courteous to seek his/her permission first.

We have checked with our prospective LL as there is a Key meter in the property we wish to rent. He is happy to have the meter changed.
I called eon who currently supply our gas and electricity, they are happy to change the meter for us free of charge as we already have an account with them that has had no problems.)
