Costco returns

Have today taken back my second Panasonic DVD Recorder to Costco and v pleased with their no quibbles returns policy.
The first one failed while still under warranty and they gave money back which enabled me to buy the second one - which was an improved model, and cheaper!
Anyway this one has now also failed (it has a stuck DVD and just keeps trying to read it all the time - won't even switch off). The player is over 2 years old, but Costco still refunded the full cost. Customer Services even offered to try to retrieve my DVD from the player for me.
So now I've bought a Sony one (wasn't going to trust Panasonic again) - for the same money, but this one has a hard drive too.
Worth bearing in mind when buying electricals.

I have done a few days work for cost-co and the staff there told me a few stories of how ridiculously good their returns policy is. Apparently someone returned socks after a few years because the elastic was beggining to go and they got a replacement pair! Someone else returned a glass bottle full of chocolates - without the chocolates - because there was a flaw in the glass. They asked for a new bottle of chocs and got them!0

Hi, can you tell me which DVD recorder you bought from Costco. We are going out to buy one tomorrow. I know I want a Sony DVD HDD recorder, so will be interested to know which ones Costco stock. Also, do you remember how much you paid?
Thanks!“All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.” Charles M Schulz0 -
The model is RDR-HX525
It has an 80 gb hard drive and cost £199.99 + VAT.
Now I need to get a new digibox to go with it because our old one is an ITV digital box, but this recorder can use the electronic programme guide in newer boxes.
V impressed so far.0 -

just to let you know that returns policy doesn't work in the gateshead branch it used to be, we took a mobile phone back which we were having problems with (approx 2yrs ago) it was less than 1yrs old and when we bought it there was a box of accesories with it ie case , car charger, we took them back but didnt have the box for the accesories, they moaned and groaned got the manager, we stood our ground and then eventually gave in, and then all of a sudden they bring out the 1 yr policy, i think they are the only one in the country who are like that:mad:0

I think they specifically exclude Computers from their guarantees, which is fair enough given the speed at which PC specs advance, and all TV's have a specific 3 year guarantee.0

I bought a TV from Costco in Derby. Threw the box away then someone told me if you have to return it within the 3 years they wont take it back without the box?! How many people would save a huge tele box?
Dont know if its true...can anyone enlighten me?You can if you think you can!0 -
Sony DVD Recorder was at Costco Watford. Just seen it's £299.99 at Argos.0

Hi Fluffy,
It's not true, my brother in law is assistant manager of the new Costco in Sheffield and they take things back without boxes, we took a guitar back without it's packaging and it's fine. They either send them back to manufacturers or seel them cheaper in a corner of the store. In liverpool they are quite relaxed about the policy so it must just be down to a jobsworth in one of the other stores.

One for the legal eagles to confirm or to call me stupid but...
...I seem to remember reading somewhere (maybe here) that legally, Sale of Goods Act I presume, packaging isn't required to return goods.
Again this is just a distant memory so I could be wrong.0
