Help needed on PPI reclaiming when in debt....

Hi, I find these boards really useful and I was wondering if one of you very knowledgable people would be ble to help me.
My husband and I have gotten into a lot of debt over the past few years and we are currently in a DMP with the CCCS (for about 18 months) which we are managing ok. I have recently been successful with a PPI claim from the Halifax and they wrote to me and said I would be receiving £1,500.00 in a refund. We were over the moon and then I realised that they were planning to pay this into my overdrawn Halifax bank account which is part of our DMP (overdraft sitting at about £1800.00).
Can I ask that they not do this and let us have the money by cheque, we now have a new joint bank account with a different bank? This money could have meant us getting much needed repairs done to our house and enabled me to pay my parents back money that I borrowed from them (thay need it a bit more than the Halifax).
Thanks so much to anyone who reads this and I really appreciate any advice.

You are allowed to ask to be paid by cheque but you need to ask this before they begin processing the refund.
By default if you give no instructions they are allowed and will pay it against any current debts you hold with them. With any remainder been paid by cheque.
You should be really seeing if you can use the PPI refund to do a F&F offer of 30% against some of your debts, make the money go further.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Thanks for that, I just got the letter yesterday so I will phone them tomorrow. If they have begun processing the refund would I still have a chance?

All you can do is try, you really should request refund by cheque as soon as you hear of the success of even put it in as a request to begin with. For better help ask on the PPI reclaim forum - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=169Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
