How much do you spend on your children's clothes?

How much do you need to cut back? I make a lot of my children's clothes (they're pre-schoolers) - I get the fabric from jumble sales or car boots or charity shops then have a look in Monsoon or on ebay for ideas and take it from there.
I don't buy new clothes for me - I always buy second hand or make my own from bits.
I buy new shoes, undies and pjs for the littlies, and at the rate they grow that's about £100 each (3 pairs of clarkes/ hushpuppies at £26 a go then the undies etc), and I have one pair of new boots and a pair of new shoes each year (so about £50 in total), plus £20 a year on some new undies. I suppose in a year I would then spend another £30 on secondhand stuff to either wear as it is or to alter or use the fabric from.
So I guess that all averages out about £25/ month.
Hope that helps.0 -
I save £15 for my DD (20 months) the majority of this goes on Clarks or Start Rite shoes. The rest goes on clothes mainly from Tescos as I'm a lazy mare and can pick up bits when I go for my shopping, I find the quality far better then the Next stuff DD has been bought as presentsSorting my life out one day at a time0

We buy as little as possible - the only things new are shoes and undies for all of us - and school blouses for the DDs. Ge tthings from boot sales, jumblies, and have lots of things given. I would say we spend £100 per year max for all the family.0

I buy in Gap in the mega reduced bits, next sale, m&S sale, debenhams 70% off and charity shops. My fav charity shop sells kids clothes at between 25p & 49p (just bought adams trousers & 2 next tops for less than £1)0

I like my kids to wear decent names so I look on websites like Bountyand Emmas Diary, you can get some real bargains0

I used to buy Asda and Tesco for my son, but got sick of having things stretch or not fit well (the fit seemed really big). There were some exceptions, but I found lots of things just didn't seem to last. Also, some horrible Primark jumpers that were made of Acrylic and had sleeves that were practically down to his knees were a waste of money - everyone else on here seems to find decent Primark things, but I can't!
Now I buy the odd GAP thing (he has a sweatshirt style top he has worn for the last two years and it looks great), and quite a bit from Vertbaudet (when they have an offer on) which I find fits well and lasts. The same with my daughters clothes.0 -
We don't have a set budget, but are really lucky in that our 2 1/2 year old DD gets given everyone elses handmedowns, and she has a huge family on partner's side who all buy clothes for Christmas/birthday/Easter (birthday is on Boxing Day so get them together!) so we don't really need to buy much. Shoes from Clarks every few months is around £20 (for some reason the sales are always on when we need to get her new shoes
) and sandals or trainers we get from Asda or Next now as they fit her well. Our biggest spend was a dress from Monsoon which we paid £25 for, but it is absolutely gorgeous and was for a family christening. Any top-up things come from H&M, Asda, Woolworths, Primark or Next (we're lucky in that our nearest shopping place is the MetroCentre) so I guess we end up spending on her about £300 a year in total.
For me and partner, it's clothes as we need them, mine from Asda, Primark or Evans (as I've grown) with the odd pair of trousers from Next or Asda, and we both get clothes for Christmas and Birthdays, and sometimes a black binbag gets left on the doorstep full of clothes that normally are great. Shoes come from discount shoe shops and sports shops. We spend around £100 in total a year on us, more if I've changed sizes again.Purple Penguin Power!
