ooobedoo wrote:am intending on buying the cheapest knickers possible from asda right afterwards.........those paper ones..what is all that about??????
oooh I know! Those paper things, one of my friends made me up a pregnancy pack when I was pregnant - bless her, she wanted to save me the embarrassment of buying breast pads etc, and she got me those paper knickers - waste of time, but gave me a good laugh - black cheapy knickers from Asda did the trick...
On the subject of clothes, I usually buy out of Primark, Asda or Tesco. He's 5 months old, so I was waiting for the sale at Next. What I have bought from Next in the sale will see him through the whole of next year, literally everything he will need coats and all for £150. From what my SIL tells me the older childrens clothes in Next definitely aren't as good as for the little ones.tying hard to cut down grocery shop bill...0 -
Off at a tangent slightly - don't buy pants that are on your bikini line . I had no notice of my c section and had tangas -they were right on my scar and although they put a bit of wadding in front of it they dug in.0

I only ever buy them clothes if they need them, not just because i want them to have something new, and i mainly get their clothes from ebay.
I have 4 kids, 3,8,9,10. And i am lucky enough to be given lots of hand-me-downs from friends.
They all own 2 pairs of trainers each, a best pair and a play pair. And when i buy new they replace the best pair and the others become play ones.
Only ever get shoes from Winsors.
2 of the boys play football for local teams, and i get their boots from a discount retail outlet, £3 for addidas boots cant go wrong.
Ebay is a debt free wanabees dream, eg i got 4 m+s swimming costumes for £2, and 3 pairs of tracksuit bottoms for £4 and that included p+p!! I dont even bother looking in the shops for clothes anymore, unless its a discount outlet.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -

I had the same problem. That is definately something that pregnancy books did not tell me. My poor husband had the embarassment of going out to buy me the biggest granny knickers he could find because everything else just rolled down into my scar.

Oops, forgot to say that I buy most my kids clothes from Asda, Matalan & Sports Soccer. My oldest is now in mens clothing and he is only 12 . My youngest (6) is a fashion victim I am afraid. He is very picky on his clothing but loves going shopping and trying everything on. He says he wants to be a "chav" :silenced:. My oldest is into the grungy look, he wears the same clothes days on end
.
I probably spend about £30 a month on my boys.0 -
I agree granny knickers in bulk from Asda,TKMAxx, Ethel Austin or whoever is cheapest...yes, they can be washed if you run out, but will be binned as soon as you stop needing them,so they are much cheaper than paper ones, and a lot comfier.
We let dd have 30 quid a month for clothes but not have access to it.No hand me downs, clothes from TKMaxx, MAtaland and school uniform from Asda &MandS, shoes by Clarks she currently still has 180 left in her a/c, so I'd say she uses around $15 a month average including uniform.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Hi I have 2 children 10 & 8,. I buy most if not all of their clothes from car boot sales. Last week I bought clothes from Hennes for them all 50p each, marks & spencers. A huge bundle. They are all pristine condition not washed out (as otherwise I would not buy them). I like to buy them from car boots by the time you have washed ironed them they look brand new. I have a good eye for nice things for the kids and the amount of time people say how well dressed & nice the kids look it gives me a huge buZZ. As i get them at at knockdown!!. It leaves us better off. When I finish with these clothes I put them on ebay and get the money back!! usually more than the 50p I pay too. I buy all sorts from car boot sales and everything I have is pristine that I have.
I had a grand clear out as am going to do some more ebaying . My children really had too many clothes , I just thought to myself they dont need this much as the chances are they dont get to wear it all either . I know I am guilty of them having too many clothes.2012 - Emergency savings fund goal by December 2012 £3000.000 -
We seemed to get a lot of gifts from friends and family. We went to 2nd hand shops and Adams for my boy's clothes, for everyday clothes. There weren't car boot sales around until my son was 11.
They grow so fast.

Have you tried registering for your local Freecycle group ? I get a lot for my children from the freecycle site, failing that, I buy from the local markets, car boots or Primark. I do sometimes strike lucky with the sales, but generally try the former."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0

Ebay, charties, friends & family, NCT sale. Only buy new underware, socks and shoes. don't lower your standards when you get secondhand-free stuff. I also mend my clothes. Just because it has a hole in it does not mean is cannot be fixed.
When board of clothes I put it in the loft then a year or so later I will fall in love again with my loft clothes and not have to spend any money.“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson
