Meter readings up AND down?
Hi
Is it possible for the gas meter to go down as well as up?
I have my gas and electricity with e-on and just had a bill through which seemed high, so i logged on to my online account to view the meter readings and they are as follows for the gas meter?
Date Source Reading Type
13-Nov-09 Meter Reader 2609 Normal
11-Feb-10 Meter Reader 1138 Normal
10-Mar-10 Estimated 2823 Normal
10-Mar-10 Customer 3174 Normal
15-May-10 Customer 3368 Normal
Is this possible? I understand that it appears to have gone up 300kw in a day because I obviously used more than they estimated.
But how could the reading done by one of their own meter readers go from 2609 DOWN to 1138 in 3 months?? Could he have read the wrong meter one of the times? I live in a block of 6 flats and none of the gas meters seem to have anything to say which is for which flat? I have been getting my readings from the same one the 1st meter reader told me was ours? I wasnt home when the second meter reader came,so i dont know if he read the same meter?
Help please.
Thanx
Liam

Looks like the wrong meter was read. I wouldn't worry about it as the bill will be based on the final meter reading.0

I should disregard the 11 feb reading as it must have been a misread or an error. Did it generate a bill? if so there must have been a credit to you.
Now take the 6 month period from 13 nov to 15 may, you have used 759 units, I hope you have a metric meter as this will convert to approximately 8500kwh which is reasonable for the cold winter period we have just been through (that is if you have gas CH)0 -
Hi Liam,
I’d firstly disregard the estimate on the 10 March 2010, looks like we estimated on the same day an actual was taken. Check the bills but I’d expect we used the actual rather than the estimate.
Has the reading of 2609 for the 13 November 2010 been used for billing? If so, have we billed from 2609 to 1138? I expect you’d notice this as it would mean we have billed ‘round the clock’ and the February 2010 bill would have been very very big. The meter will not have gone backwards.
The reading for 13 November 2009 could be wrong for a few reasons, it may have been taken for the incorrect meter, or it may have been a typing error.
The important question is which of these readings have been used for billing, you should be able to look at the bill via the online account and see which show.
The meter reading list on the online account will show all readings on record, those used for billing and those not used for billing, is this the information you’ve used for the first post?
I can quickly check this for you if you still have concerns, you can email me via the email address in my profile page if you wish.
Let me know if I can help.
