We're off to Turkey later this year. We're meeting friends in Kalkan and have a villa booked for a week. We've decided to extend our hoilday and now have 3 extra nights at the beginning. We arrive at Dalaman at 10.30 pm and wonder if anyone could recommend somewhere not to far away from the airport to stay the first night and anywhere to spend the next 2 nights. We won't have any kids in tow and would like somehere that has bars and restaurants but not on the scale of Bodrun etc, We may hire a car but haven't made our minds up yet.
Thanks in advance

I'd spend all the days in Dalyan. Lovely little resort, totally differnt from Kalkan and plenty to do for 3 days. Plus it's only 30 mins from the airport.0

We've travelled all over the world and it's the only place we go back to regularly, we 'found' it about 12 years ago, and although it's changed a bit I still think it's a very special place.0

Thanks for the replies. I've done a bit more research and like the look of Dalyan. My only concern is the amount of warnings about mosquitos I've seen. If there are mossies they will target Mrs PA. There's something about her they like.0

My wife and I are just back from Turkey, having gone out there on a property buying expedition as a subsidised guest of Orka Homes, through Prestige Villas. We flew out to Dalaman airport, which is now quite massive as the old airport from a few years ago, now just does domestic flights.
In actual fact, we nearly bought a villa whilst we were out there and even put £2,000 down with Orka Homes Managing Director, Noel Kennedy, to hold it for us for a while. Unfortunately, it didn't really meet all of our needs, and so they very kindly returned the money back to us - and very promptly too.
I guess you can read into that, how we cannot speak too highly of them. We are not alone when we say we think Noel Kennedy is as 'sound as a bell'.
Orka run a brilliant hotel in Ovacik, but when we went out there it wasn't open and so they put us up in a villa. They have also built several individual villas and developments, particularly out in the Ovacik, Hisaranu area. So....
Remember the name: 'Orka'
Remember the name: Noel Kennedy
We found the driving very easy and rented a small car for £25 per day to get about. We both even signed up for some Tandem Paragliding but the weather went against us and we had to miss that too. Again.....no trouble with getting a refund on it. This is an absolute must to try whilst you are out there and is from 6,500 ft up and takes about an hour to come down. Your pilot is behind you on a 'tandem harness', by the way and it only costs £50.
There is loads to do out there and the Turkish people are so very friendly too.
Try it for a holiday ands see if you can do it with an involvement with Orka too.
By the way, I do not have any personal involvment with Noel or Orka and their various businesses, either directly or indirectly and neither do any of my family or friends. This is just me giving on here a note of personal respect and appreciation so as to deservedly reinforce the good name that they already have and so obviously hold so dear to themselves.0 -
hi just a thought...i too seemed to be a target for the mozzies. then i was told about taking vitamin B1 for a few weeks prior to going away. worked a treat for me no more mozzie bites at all!0

Can also recommend Dalyan, we went there for the first time last year and have booked to go back in September!
The mossies love me as well, but over there you can buy the local repellant, Sin Kov, which works a treat! The only problem is it smells a fair bit and can also repel the OH!The only time I got bitten was on the last night when we were sat at the (outside) hotel bar waiting to go to the airport - having packed the Sin Kov, doh! I was wearing leggings & a strapless dress & suddenly noticed the little b*ggers all over my hands, ankles, feet etc!

hi,
Another way to try to avoid getting bitten by these pests, is to try not to sit near any plants bushes or shrubery, i find this is the only time that i get bitten.
Hope this helps
