Appliance Rollers

Like these...

Just wondering if anyone's used them - do they work? I'm guessing the hard bit is getting the heavy appliance on them in the first place. Does anyone have any tips, hints, warnings etc?

Hmm, I had a suspicion they weren't the wonder device they seemed!

I had a set of these and found them difficult to get into position. Now I just use carpet offcuts, easier to get into place on my own, just tilt the appliance and kick 'em under. Used pile side to the floor they glide easily enough across hard floors.

If you survive getting them into position without the appliance falling on top of you (i had a disagreement with a fridge/freezer trying to put it on similar but cheaper rollers on my own) they are difficult to move the appliance unless the pair of rollers are positioned exactly parallel and remain so..if not they tend to slip out again

Another vote for upturned carpet (we leave a piece permanently under the washing machine now).

My mum has rollers under most of her white goods and they work fine, but she was told when she got a new washer delivered that they null and void any guarantee if she used them.

Thanks everyone, there's definitely a clear message emerging here :)

I was thinking of using them to move a big side-by-side fridge freezer to a differnet position in the kitchen, so it's just a one off move rather than constant - upturned carpet sounds like the way forward - and much easier to get underneath the beast!

We bought some Magic Sliders - plastic coasters with a self-adhesive pad to stick it to the feet of the appliance and very smooth bottom coating. They really do work like magic. Although I needed my husband's help to put them into place (he tilted the machine whilst I put them onto the washing machine feet), I could move the washing machine easily afterwards as though it were on wheels.

However, you can't leave the front Magic Sliders in place on a washing machine, otherwise it will move around whilst on the spin cycle. We removed the front ones and placed a couple of small lino off-cuts underneath the front feet to protect the Karndean flooring. Next time we need to move the washing machine again, we just have to tilt it and fit the Sliders on the front again.

We have them on the fridge-freezer, too. Brilliant invention!
