Ways to minimise broadband disruption when moving house?
Comments

We moved house in January only across to the other side of our village.
I informed BT about 2 weeks before the move and the phone line and broadband were transferred the same day of the move!:j We were really surpirsed and only tried plugging the phine and laptops in on the off chance.
I think they say 20 days to cover themselves and it my be down to your local exchange or soemthing equally technical.
Hopefully in your case as your moving within the local area it should be a quick transfer of services!

Goodluck with the move
That's what I did as well when we moved from the North of England down here to the Southwest. After driving all day, we just plugged in our modem and it worked right off the bat.
When we moved to this house, we transferred from BT to Virgin and since we had a week between exchange and completion, we phoned them up the day we exchanged and asked when they could be out to hook us up and they did it the next business day. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
I am going through this process right now so can offer some advice: it's a total and utter shambles.
The ONLY way of guaranteeing internet is to use a mobile dongle while the different providers argue, fight and sort things out amongst themselves.
Basically, you're at the mercy of the previous owners. They need to clear the line by cancelling and only then can your new provider order the connection. Then, once you have a working connection (for 48 hours) your broadband provider can activate your broadband on the line but - as you've noticed - there can be a 10 day delay in this happening.
It's totally shambolic.0 -

Except it's no guarantee you'll get anything usable. I queried all the network operators on coverage in my area, and Orange claimed they had 3G coverage. Different story when I actually tried their dongle at home, I could only get basic GPRS which was completely unusable for web browsing and only just about ok for email. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
