1.1 I won't tick since it wasn't quite the whole of the year on JSA and part was income, part contribution based anyway.
2.1 Taxable Social Security Benefits. Will enter the amount of taxable JSA (contribution based) as provided by the Job Centre.
2.2 Income Details. Just any earnings while not on JSA. Will not put either JSA figure.
SMI - Support for Morgtage Interest which is part of JSA.
Giftaid - Having looked at the link, we wouldn't have paid enough tax to qualify and therefore HMRC would want us to cover the amount they have paid to the charity. I will contact the charity and ask if they can stop the form.
Thanks!
Sorry to bump, but I'm still confused and starting to worry that I wanted to send the info back ages ago0 -
Hi! I'm sorry but I don't understand the current issue.
The details you've given in the above posts seem to be correct for the requirements of the Tax Credit renewal process.
With Gift Aid the impact of income tax deductions of £10 would have no effect on your overall Tax Credit award, and if you are not in a position to request Gift Aid be given to charity in yoru name then the charity concerned will become aware of this once they submit request.0 -
Thanks again for your reply.
Thats great - I just really needed someone to confirm that my understanding (noted above) is in fact correct0 -
Hi again,
I've just got round to sending my form off and am still confused with the Income based & Contribution based JSA.
If contribution based JSA is taxable and payable for 182 days at £102.75 per week for couples, the max I could possibly receive is £2671.50.
But the letter from the job centre states a total figure of JSA. The amount is the same as one quoted on previous correspondance from them which also stated how much of it was taxable. Although it doesn't clearly state it, this must be the amount of contribution based, but it is over £3000 which doesn't add up with the above. It's almost like the job centre have got their info the wrong way round.
It may be that my earlier question on SMI (support for mortgage interest) is more important than I thought. Perhaps this is included in the contribution based figure. Even this doesn't seem to add up though.0 -
Have now contact someone in authority at the JC along with my MO0

Important update for any who found this thread useful. Some of the advice above is incorrect. Both types of JSA are taxable, however Tax Credits only need the amount of contribution based. They do need start / end dates of income based.0

An interesting update to this thread -
Well over a year later I received a letter confirming the amount of contribution based JSA. This now makes two years worth of tax credits incorrect. Tax Credits say they cannot update my award. The job centre has not even apologised! I have contacted my MP and await an update. Does anyone have any advice?0
