which car for 19 year old?

Options
Any chance of advice? We want to upgrade the car my eldest son uses (S reg Peugeot 306 at present) without heavily increasing the insurance premium, which at the moment is £1500. He was a named driver for 2 years on a policy that had no claims made and has had his full license for 18 months. He now has a policy in his own right to build up his no claims. He spends a lot of time in the Lake district and Snowdonia as he is an avid climber and hillwalker. This requires a large space in the car to put climbing gear, tent, rucksac etc. With the weather we had this winter and the rural driving he does would a 4wd be better ....but then how will we keep the insurance down? Any advice would be cery welcome. Thanks

    What's wrong with the 306?

£1500 sounds pretty good with zero no claims, can't he just run with it for another year or so? Comes down very quickly with a year's NCD.

Yes that is an option, just wanted to treat him to a bit more comfort and reliability.
