New seller, he is the one at risk from a chargeback as he won't be able to prove delivery. Also the fees issue. If you decide to take him up on his kind offer make sure you pay just as you leave home and it will be easier to get the money back if he is not there.
It is weird though....might pay to be cautious.
Someone else might have a better idea.0 -
I understand. Seller probably wants to be sure that he has the money before you go to his home. Some buyers place a winning bid then try to haggle the price down when they go to collect.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.

he's clearly an uneducated seller
just email him and ask him HOW he can provide a tracking number to paypal to prove that the item has been delivered?
the risk is all on his side here (unless his feedback is poo)
he clearly doesn't realise the caveats of paypal for this type of transaction
point him here www.bleugh.co.uk/paypalmoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I have seen this being done a few times on vehicles. My thoughts are the description of condition of the item maybe a tad optimistic. It avoids a buyer turning up and saying "That's not as described - I'm not having it."Light blue touchpaper and stand well back !0

Like bleugh says though paypal will just give the buyer their money back as seller can't prove delivery.
I like paypal but I'm with bleugh on this one. Anyone who takes paypal for a collection item is going to end up losing a lot of money one day. I'm always surprised how much money people are willing to gamble losing.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread - bit of an eyeopener for me. I've been using paypal for payment for larger items, and asking people to initial a printout of the sale when they pick up the item. I must say it never even occured to me to ask for cash!Overpay!0
