How snug should engagement ring be?

Options
Not sure if this is right place to post...but we picked up today my engagement ring in the right size - L - and its still a weeny bit loose, not so much it will make it past my knuckle but it does move a little, I do have skinny fingers and knobbly knuckles (according to the jeweller lol!) so worried about getting it reduced anymore, especially with warmer weather during the summer...should I go back to jeweller?..

  • My engagement ring is slightly too big as well. Really should get it resized before the wedding but think I might have left it a little late now! Could you maybe try the size below?

I have the same problem - the ring finger on my right hand is a size L and my fingers swell when they are hot and the ring fits quite snuggly there are times when my hand is cold and that ring then spins round. You don't want the ring to be too tight because you could end up having it cut off when it starts to dig in.

A teeny bit loose is ok, mine's like that. When it's really hot and your fingers swell a bit, it's not so painful.

Ive just bought an engagement ring for my other half (hope she's not on this site without my knowledge, Ive not done the one knee bit yet....:D) and I was told by the jeweller (a proper one on Hatton Garden and everything ;)) that it should be loose enough to move with a little resistance between the two knuckles but obviously without being able to easily slide over the middle knuckle with no force at all. Any tighter and, as others have suggested, it can be uncomfortable in the summer. HTH

Mine is a little loose at the moment but is fine when I'm warmer. I'm thinking of getting some of those little clear plastic snug things that make it fit better but can be taken off. Don't want to size down then be too tight to wear in warmer weather

Mine is a little loose. We got it when I was 3 months pregnant in the summer so I expected it to end up a little big. I had to remove it when I was 8 months pregnant as my fingers swelled and it started to hurt.
A few months after I had my son I'd lost a lot of weight thanks to breastfeeding I had to wear it on my right hand as it kept slipping of my left.

I think a little leeway is good to take into account swelling. Somedays my ring fits just right but most days it does turn around.

You've not left it too late - plenty of places will turn around a standard gold 18ct ring in 24 hours or while you wait, slightly more complicated if you have stones etc around it, in which case it'll still be done in a week. Mine had to be made 2 sizes smaller (it was an old family ring) and I kept putting it off, I was constantly terrified it would fly off! For the sake of £20 it's so worth it!

Where do you get these from?
I needed some while I was waiting to make an appointment to get my ring resized & I couldn't find a jeweler that did them.

Ive just had to have mine made a size bigger. It was snug when i got it, and ive put on a bit of weight and with the warmer weather its made horrible indent and mark on my finger, which didnt fade after a week without wearing my ring.

I've seen them advertised in various catalogues (often the ones that come with the weekend newspaper supplements), think even things like Betterware. If you just google 'ring adjuster' you'll find them
