No rail fare available!

I was looking for a fare from St. Albans Abbey [SAA] to Shepherds Bush [SPB] via Watford Junction [WFJ], apparently there is no fare for this journey!

There is, however a quoted fare from the next station on the line, Park Street [PKT], which the train stops at on its way to Watford Junction. I would have expected SAA to have either the same fare or perhaps very slightly more. The staff have been forced to have a workaround for this situation;)

Does this situation exist elsewhere for obvious routes such as this?

Well I can find fares for that route on East Coast Trains website.

Anytime Single = £10.80
Off Peak Day Return = £11.20
Anytime Day Return = £14.90
All via Not London.

The staff don't have a fare! So are unable to issue tickets.

And it's only £10 return from Park Street, which is only a couple of minutes away from SAA.

Probably - it exists because someone has forgotten to load the fare in the database that the staff use. It will get corrected at some point - quicker if the staff actually report the problem as well as resorting to the workaround.

Don't know if it's still like this but a couple of years back on the Wirral we discovered that the "computer says no" if you want a ticket from Heswall station to Conway Park station so the ticket inspector charged us from Heswall to the station after Conway Park. We complained to the train company but haven't needed a ticket between those stations since so I don't know if they have fixed it yet.
