MSE Dyson repairs

had the motor blow on a DC07 Animal , they wanted £70 for a Dyson rep to fix it , did it the MSE way by buying a new motor off ebay for £17 and following the instructions on this web site. Apparently the motor blows as Dyson claim that the filters work 100% effective 100% of the time , but the motor one clogs up and causes it to overheat....lesson learnt !!

Our Dyson DC04 (about 8 years old) started making a horrible screeching noise when the brush was turning. Took it to our local appliance repair shop for repair was told that the clutch mechanism had gone but they no longer do this repair as it;s too fiddly. They offered to send it to Dyson for repair at a cost of £90-£100 but said I would be better off buying a new Dyson. Came home a bit deflated with the prospect of having to spend £200+ to get something equivalent. I did a quick check online an found that I could get the part (Dyson manufactured) for £24 delivered. What was even better was that I chanced on a You-Tube video which shows the change could be done in 10 minutes. Bought the part and did the change without any great difficulty although I did find that without the special tool to stretch the belt it took two of us to complete one of the stages. Machine is as good as new
    Awaiting a new sig

The good thing about Dysons is that they are comparatively easy to repair and parts are cheap and accessible. We've still got our old DC01 which has had the mains cable rewired 3 times, new wheels, brush, belts and soleplate (all off eBay). People make a living out of repairing and reselling them. Not changing filters as recommended is a major cause of problems. A repairman told me years ago that you can get away with 'extending' filter life on a lot of vacuums but never, ever, with Dysons.

i would have thought the easiest way to repair a dyson is to take it to the dump and buy something that won't keep needing repairing - considering they are one of the more costly vaccums to start with , if you are paying that amount of cash , you want something that is quality -

OP, Browntoa The main motor exit filter is required part to clean. The overheating motor has a thermal cutout and resets automatically having cooled down.

    Quality for sure.

Totally agree! Buy a Sebo. I've spent £10 in 25 years on mine. Dysons are expensive rubbish.

I'm expecting my Dyson Medal any time. Got to go now and weld up the old coal shovel that's starting to split.

Mine had a 5 year warranty. When it refused to coil the power flex back in, they sent chap round couple of days later. He sourced a spare part and fixed the lot without any fuss whatsoever. Canna moan at all really.
