How do I get rid of the rooten smell from milk which ended up down my fridge defrost channel??

I had that problem and we had to pull the fridge out and clean the dish at the back that the water evaporates from. It was a bit of a fiddle to access it but it worked. I sympathise because the smell from gone off milk is revolting.0 -
My fridge is doing this after 7 years trusty service. I bunged vinegar and soda bicarb down tube tonight and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it will work. Seriously don't want to buy a new fridge as I like the layout and size of this one.Armchair shopper and cook - albeit with a ready meal on my lap and "plates of meat" in a foot spa!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0

Vinegar and bicarb worked for me after I first stuck a skewer down there so the chemicals could get in. Now I dribble a bit of vinegar or lemon juice down there each week and it seems to stop it building up with gunge.
PS very belated (from 2008) thanks to Squeaky for the info re the plate etc - had never been able to work out what was going on before. Once I knew that, sorting out the problem was straightforward - that and trying to avoid loose "bits" in the fridge!"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Hi
I know this conversation is lightly out of date, but it is along the lines of what I am looking for.
I was using a cotton bud to clear the gunk for the hole at the back of my fridge. It slipped out of my hand and down the hole.
Is this some thing that I should be worried about?
Is there some way to retrieve it?0 -
Switch fridge off to defrost. When defrosted you should be able to thread curtain wire down through drain hole till it reaches hole at back. Hopefully this will dislodge your cotton bud. Make sure you have a long enough piece of curtain wire that you can keep hold of. I use about 1 metre.0

A long cable tie is great for unclogging the fridge drain. It has the flexibility to reach down into the opening. Then follow with a drop of lemon juice and white vinegar. I use my tiny little funnel for this, that I failed to find a use for until now!0

I have just linked 3 straws together and bravely blown down the hole and its worked!! after months and months of wet soggy veg and puddles this is now fixed
thanks folks! I have now dribbled some lemon juice down there to help it on its way and give it a nice smell.0 -
I find the long, thick pipecleaners that you get work really well for this. I think I got my last lot from the kid's craft section in Wilkos.0
