Anyone own/owned a 2000ish Hyundai Accent?

I recently bought a 2000 Hyundai Accent and noticed today that the fuel gauge didn't go down when I switched the engine off. I then put some fuel in incase it was stuck and I didn't really have that much petrol! After I refueled the fuel gauge went up but veeerrrrrryyyy slooooooowwwwwly.
I've only driven three cars before this one and the fuel gauges went right down as soon as you switched the engine off and went up as soon as you refuel.
I'm hoping that someone on here might be able to tell me that all Hyundai Accents do that and that it isn't broken...

Fords don't go down either, it might just be normal

I have a 1999 accent and mines the same. Don't worry.
I have noticed if you leave it for a longer period (i.e. a couple of weeks) without starting it it will go down.0 -
What do you think of it?
I've seen a couple around in my "as cheap as possible" pricing territory with reasonable length MOTs....But I would say that it's my first car. Well, its VERY well built (bits of metal through the parcel shelf to hold it together!), has lots of space in the boot and is reasonably nippy. Much quicker than my mum's 1.0 corsa B I was driving before. And I get about 42 mpg out of it, which isn't bad at all. I bought it under similar criteria as you, but I paid over the odds for it really. It certainly feels very tight and new considering its 10 years old. Oh and maintenance is cheap as well; thus far (6 months) all I've had to do is balance the wheels and replace the wipers, but I got a quote from the main dealers for a cambelt and water pump of £231.

Thank you - I was having a bit of a panic!
And kilty, I love mine - I've only had it a couple of weeks but it has been perfectly reliable and as someone else said - rather nippy - mine's a 1500cc, I don't know if that's waht they all are. Prior to this car I've had rather unusual cars (my last one was a 1986 Renault 4) and I'm quite enjoying 'blending in'! Also, they are not boy racer material so the ones that I saw (and the one that I ended up buying) tend to be well looked after and low mileage.0 -

Why on earth did you get rid of the 4? I was vaguely interested in one of those before I bought my Accent.0 -
I got rid of my Renault 4 (Ruby
) because for some reason other drivers hated her - I have never experienced such road rage in my life! The funny thing is that I used to drive my husbands Saab too and drove the same way in both cars - I never had any tooting/swearing/dangerous overtaking in the Saab. I really loved Ruby, such fun to drive - but for sme reason other people hated being behind her. I was so affected that I gave up driving for two years - the Hyundai Accent is the first car I have had since then. Hence my comment ablout liking 'blending in'.
I'm sure that someone who didn't take things so personally would not be affected in the same way that I was. My husband posted on the Renault 4 forum about it and a number of people had similar experiences. I guess they just look old and people percieve that they are being held up by it. They don't have the cool factor that a Beetle or VW Campervan (we had one of those too) has - they seem to be far more accepable to other road users. It's sad because Ruby was the most reliable car I have ever owned - I miss her0 -
