Skip hire liability
Options
Hi we hired a skip which got delivered to outside our house on the road and my neighbour reckons he reversed into it and is looking at suing as he reckons there werent enough cones etc around it he is third party fire and theft who is liable for the skip - us or the company and also I rang for the skip my partner signed for it on delivery so out of us whos responsibility would it be mine his or both the skip company paid council for a licence to have it on road also i dont believe this is what happened i dont believe he hit the skip i think he did it elsewhere he has been out taking photos of the skip on digital camera
Never judge a book by its cover

The skip was stationary, was it?
Whether the skip was licensed or not, he had no right to drive into it.0 -
Neighbour should take a driving test, i'm only surprised he freely admits to be so incompetent..
Ignore him.0 -
Go and take pictures of the car and damage to the skip so that you can inform the Skip Hire company incase they want to chase him for damage caused to their property.0

Tell him you were in the skip at the time and are suing for skiplash.0

So he's going to sue you because he's a rubbish driver. What a wally. Have never seen any cones around the skips currently in our street & one is absolutely massive.0

He may be a rubbish driver, but that's no excuse to drive into a (rubbish) skip.0 -
If he can reverse and fail to see a skip-would a mere cone protect him from himself-and us from him ?0

clearly the guy isn't fit to drive, ask him if he forgot his glasses0

I'd second the he's at fault - it's a blooming big yellow/orange, stationary item.
If he couldn't see it he's in serious need of an eye test, and potentially shouldn't be driving at all (if he couldn't see a skip, what hope do pedestrians, cyclists, and other smaller bits of road furniture have).
I'm reminded of the Jasper Carrot insurance sketch "I was reversing into my drive when a lampost jumped out and hit the back of my car".
Besides anything else, reversing is normally an "at risk" manoeuvre as you do have restricted vision.
with regards to the skip and insurance, iirc any skip hire place should arrange the necessary paperwork and insurance for it to be placed on the road if they are informed before it's delivered that that is where it will be (I think most ask when the booking is taken for that sort of reason).0
