On JSA and now found a job.But start in 3 weeks time

Hi there,

I am current on JSA and just found a job, but this will not start until the 7.6.2010. In view of this I still would like to apply for benefits until I start work. What is the best way to handle this, If I tell the benefits people now will they stop my JSA immediately, or will they pay me up until the date I start my new job?

Would appreciate your advices!

Many thanks

In order to continue to claim JSA, you must continue to actively seek work. You should make yourself available for temporary work in the interim period.

    well done at the job.
but just continue to claim how you have done.
dont mention that you got the job.
just fill in the part of your JSA booklet that you have to.
BUT only after you have started your job.
As you dont know for certain till you start do you.

They pay you up to the date you start your job, there is no problem with you claiming JSA up till then. When it happened with me the job centre staff didn't hassle me at all about finding other work in the meantime and actually sorted me out in getting a tax refund :)

They pay you up until the date when you cease to fulfil your JSA agreement.

It is worth mentioning that you have had a job offer when you go to sign on, as the staff will be able to tell you if there is anything else you can claim for and you may be able to get ADF, which is the advisers discretionary fund which can help with any items such as work wear, equipment or help with travel costs etc.
  • Thanks all for the various responses, not sure what option to go with. I actually have my 12 week JSA interview next week so will try to sound them out to see what they say. Thanks also for the info on the ADF as I will be commuting by train for this role, so will see if I can get any funding for the train costs.
