Chester - yep its got to be one of the worst loyalty cards around, HOWEVER, do a quick search on here and you will find some links to points vouchers. I think one is still valid until the end of August. Every now and then there's a new one to get 200 or so bonus points. I now have £20 odd quid on my card. So my tip os serach for bonus points to make it viable.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
We have to ask if a customer has a loyalty card in the store I work in as we are judged via mystery shopping on it. The number of customers who have a strop about it or who shout at poor 16 yr old cashiers is disgusting. I had no idea that it was such a personal question. After all we are not selling anything, some customers come to the till straight away and say no and i don't want one. No hello nothing, if the cashier said that to you I bet that wouldn't go down well. If you haven't got one just say no, some customers are actually thankful we ask because they sometimes forget and could miss out on valuable points.0

Hey don't be so hard on the checkout operators.
We have to ask you the questions, to every customer, otherwise we get in trouble with the manager. Checkout operators are often treated so badly by customers, it's hard to understand why people can be so rude and arrogant when you are just there doing their job!
Okay so you might not want a reward card, nor help with you packing, but it's not like the person on the otherside knows that. If the checkout operator didn't say anything, and you went and complained because they forgot to put your points on, that paticular person would get a formal warning.
A few times in a row and it's the sack.
So cut some slack aye? I'm sure you have to do some repetitive tasks in your job, it's just the same. Can I afford to buy? Mortgage Affordability Calculator

This was all for a 31p stamp and a receipt.
All I wanted to do was send the b!oody letter

You could always just get in first with 'Hi, I don't have a reward card and I'm fine with my packing' if you really wanted to.
Agree, I work in GAME, and we have to ask - if someone buys a game, loses thier receipt and comes in guns blazing, there's nothing we can do unless they have a reward card with us - its an additional proof of purchase. Also with our cards, you do have to pay a membership fee, which about 95% of people earn back quite soon, but you don't need to carry the card with you - we've got a computer system at our fingertips to get your card number.
At the end of the day, if i'm going to purchase things from anywhere, its nice to be rewarded for it, and build up points, as a sale assistant I see how easy it can be to build them up (heck, in 2 and a half years, i've had over £200 in savings from my GAME card just from preordering new titles I want, getting them as soon as they come out). I can't stand it when people get nasty to us about the cards, most of the time we only offer them because of peace of mind.~*Cerenia*~

I used to work for Game as well. I agree that it was quite a good system as far as loyalty cards go for the simple fact you could look up the no on the comp. It always made me lol when you would offer one to a student and tell them it got them a instant 10% off every purchase, but they still refused to have one, even though it would save them more than the £2 it would have cost them to sign up. Ah well.
Simply asking, do you have a loyalty card and then explaining the benefits of it if the customer is interested is a lot less intrusive than the barrage of questions and sales pitches you get at a lot of other shops these days though..0 -
