Does any1 know the nearest train station in Newcastle to the Ferry Port in Newcastle please? There are 3 stations in Newcastle, and I haven't got a clue which one is nearest, being a mere Southerner
Once at the station, what is the best way to get to the Port: Bus/Taxi/Walk/Piggyback? Thanks for your help

We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Can I just say, I thought up North was supposed to be cheaper than the South. £4 for a 20 minute bus ride? Blimey, at least !!!!!! Turpin wore a mask

Diesel fuel and petrol generally costs the same nationwide.
Incidentally, the ferry port is actually in North Shields - not Newcastle - and the Holland ferry sails into Ijmuiden - not Amsterdam.0 -
If there are a few of you then it may be worth getting a taxi, don't get a black cab though, take some numbers of the north shields based taxi companies-central and Preston are a couple but look on yell.com. You can generally get a set fare for under £12.0

Have you won one of the Mini Cruises then.
There is a designated bus around 3.30/4pm each day outside Central Station. Have a look on the DFDS website, there is lots of information on it.
I will send you a pm with some tips for you to save some money.
Have a good time. How many of you are there going.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks to everyone for all their help. Thanks McKneff for your PM.
Yes I did win the cruise to Amsterdam, but passed it on to my daughter. Apologies for saying the port was in Newcastle, when, in fact, it is in North ShieldsThe winning email said you have won a mini cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam. There is a coach which picks them up at the Dutch Ferry end and heads into Amsterdam, so that part is right. I will pass on all your help and advice to my daughter. She will probably take no notice - never does - and up on a fast train to Glasgow

As an aside - frome personal experience, I would try to avoid the Friday sailing (outbound) as it tends to attract the Stag/Hen night crowds and I have seen these on two occasions getting out of hand with fights breaking out.
I found sailing out on the Thursday and returning into North Shields on the Saturday morning was pretty good as Amsterdam was less busy on the Friday (when you arrive).
Your daughter could also extend her trip by using the Saturday on her return to shop in Newcastle or the Metro centre (Gateshead) and also enjoy the party atmosphere in the city on a Saturday night. There is also an outlet shopping area (Royal Quays) next to the terminal.
She will enjoy the trip I am sure.0
