help needed please regarding housing benefit

hi i applied for housing benefit on the 20th of April, since i moved in on the 5th of April i thought i could back date it from the 5th of april

anyway i recieved a letter stating that application for backdated housing/ council tax 05/04/10 til 26/04/10 has been declined and i can appeal against this .

my question is does that mean i wont get any housing benifet at all?

or just the backdated part and i will recieve another letter regarding my claim?

or do i need to reapply?

You will receive a letter regarding your ongoing entitlement, the question of backdating is dealt with separately. A claim is only backdated if you can show good cause for not claiming earlier.

Hi, it depends, where your circumstances from 05/04/2010 exactly the same as they are now, as in income etc? As if they were it probably means you wont get a penny, i haev a friend who works for housing, and have the calculation of how to work out if your entitled to housing benefit. Also DMG may also be right as sometimes more often than not they dont backdate unless you have a VERY good reason for backdating.

You could always appeal, Can i ask why didn't you claim sooner?

I have just given notice to my landlord as i cant afford the rent on JSA been waiting for a decision from the HB office since Feb! I keep getting letter with changes of dates etc but no payment. I fully sympathise with anyone having trouble with HB departments.
