Oh I dealt with that side of it a while ago, my father died five years ago.
I have spoken to a finance officer at my college who is utterly disgusted with my LEA for the way they have treated myself and others. They sent me one letter over the summer stating that they had revised my situation and I am now not required to pay my fees. I couldn't believe it I was so happy, they soon damped the mood by forwarding another letter saying I may have been one of the people to receive a letter stating that I do not have to pay my fees and this may be incorrect.
They didnt say yes or no I would have to pay my fees nor did they state that I was one of the people to recieve such a letter.
I was one of those people, so I called the LEA to confirm the situation and they said oh no you have to pay your fees and there is no addition help available for you, as you have studied before!0 -

My son start uni in September, we have too much money to qualify for any help (where is it then) My hubby is director of engineering company sounds good but not as grand as it sounds. As he is the owner of the company is there a way that he can Sponsor him or would he have to justify it to the Inland Revenue, Is it the case that he can do what he wants with the Ltd company money (he earns it) and that he just wont get tax relief on it. I could ask his accountant but he charges 50 quid just to look through his window lol
My mum also has her own business and she turns over very little and for some strange reason the LEA seem to think we are the richest people on the planet. I would love for them to come and see exactely how much money we don't have!
I would personally speak to your accountant even though it may prove costly as there are ways around it. And you really need his advice as the LEA are pretty much useless as are most of the govenment resources in this country!
Ask your son to find out who the financial officer/adviser is at his university and have a chat with them. Or even give the university call or look online as they may have a webpage with student finance help and advice on.
If your son is starting this year he could apply for a loan to pay his tuition fees or have they denied him that already? If he started to struggle financially he can apply for a hardship loan, but I hope it doesn't go that far. I hope this has helped a little and I do sympathise. Good Luck!0 -
Thanks for answering I was beginning to give up looking Lol
My boy went on Monday and I think we will just have to wait and see. He got a tuition fee loan and a student loan. I can't believe how difficult they make what should be an easy process.
You cant confirm your place on the course until you have had notification of tuition fee loan from you LEA ,which you then have to send to the university who wont release the first part of your maintenace loan with out seeing the tuition fee confirmation letter. you end up in a big loop. Just when I thought Id sorted everything and dropped my boy in Liverpool there was a letter waiting for him saying "You must take this letter to regester, with out it your funds will not be released to your bank account" Oh right, that will be why they sent it after he had gone then!!!!!
If the tuition fee hike dont put you off filling in the ruddy form will0 -
I know exactely what you mean I started back today and even though I am in the second year I still had to fill out a four page form.
My LEA also sent me a form stating that I do not need to pay my fees even though when I ring up to ask them anything they say I must pay my fees.
It's crazy they are so dis-organised, yet if we do anything wrong they come down on you like a ton of bricks it's makes me laugh.
The government want young people to go into education, then why make it such a battle. The way it's going only the rich will be able to afford to go into higher education you just can't win.0
