next door to me has just had her 18th and she had a party for her friends but her mum is very family orientated and wanted something that the whole family could do so she organised a meal at a nice resturant in another city abt 30 miles away and had a limo pick them all up should have seen the 18 yr olds face it was a picture she looked so excited, and lots of pics for the family album to look back on.Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -

Hi Surfergirl, I have an 18 and a 17 year old (Wifes fault not mine!!) anyway for 18th pressie bought her a driving experience, thats driving a mini, E type Jag and double decker bus round a race track, he would needed to have passed his driving test. My daughter can't wait to do it, she is waiting for the better weather, cos you can book the experince when you fancy, well within a year of buying it anyway. Loads of ideas on https://www.buyagift.com, (no connection) helicopter flight, plane piloting etc etc. Might get him away from his computer!! I did a ballon flight for my 40th.... absolutely brilliant, highly recommend that.
How about encouraging him take a holiday in the summer with his mates, loads of cheap hols available. Again my 18 year off with mates this summer, although she is paying for it herself. They have got to get independant sometime!! Any of these ideas any good???
Best of Luck! What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
Thanks for the suggestions Davidboy,
Will check out the website, Helicopter flight sounds fun, as he has only just started driving lessons.Just wanted something that he will really remember.
Glad to hear you enjoyed your balloon flight.
These are just the kind of ideas i would never have thought of.
Thanks again

Depending on whether you live close to an airport served by the budget airlines, you can do a day trip to a european city.
Firms such as Ryanair have so many 99p flights, and by the time you add the taxes this comes to about £23 pp.
You need to live near to places like Luton or Stansted to take full advantage, otherwise its difficult or impossible to get a reasonable amout of time in the city.
Many airports though (e.g. I did it from Bristol) enable you to chose Dublin for a day trip, and this has a fast bus service service into the city, and then, you can visit the Guinness Factory or the Jameson Whiskey amongst other places of interest.Bad Spellers of the world untie0 -

ROFLMAO - cheers Matey, coffee splatts all over my screen now. It's great to wake up to a belly laugh
You've been given some excellent ideas already, but, on a practical level - bearing in mind he is now "officially" an adult, how about an "Adult Survival Kit"? Being an adult is not always fun and fantasy fulfilling
I'll give a couple of ideas and maybe, others can add to the list (?):-
1) Martin's book - The Money Diet - all adults need to be moneywise to avoid/survive the debt trap!
2) A good DIY book - empower him with skills he'll need for day to day stuff
3) A basic cookery book! (one's aimed at Students are normally very good)
4) "How Clean Is Your House" Book -
5) A packet of Condoms!!!
6) Leaflets from Political Parties, so he can make up his mind about who to vote for and why he's voting for them (!!)
Maybe he could be opening that while he awaits the Limo/helicopter/sports car

Hi we have 4 between us and 3 0f them have already done the 18th bit we have one more to go in 2 months time, anyway we decided that when they passed their driving tests we would give them £1000 towards their first car which meant they all got their presents 6 months earlier than their birthdays and on actual birth-day they get £100 cash and a cake! homemade of course because its cheaper. This worked for us although on actual day we did have to remind them.0
