Where can I find error signature information?

I'm trying to load some software that came with my new camera but keep getting an error message. I have contacted Canon support but their advice was to uninstall, reboot and try again. Well that hasn't worked so I'd like to find out how I can decipher the error signature. I've searched Google but haven't found anything remotely useful.

I'm getting really frustrated as without the software I can't really use my £700 camera to the best of its ability:mad:

If anyone can help I'd be grateful

You don't say what OS you are using, but, assuming it is a recent version of Windows, you may find more detailed info in the system error logs.

How you access this depends on which version of Windows you have - in WinXP you need to go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer and look in the Application section.

However, having the detailed info will only be any use to you if Canon are prepared to look at it and interpret what it means for you. I doubt they will, but you may be lucky!

Have you checked that your PC and OS meet the requirements that Canon publish as being supported?

Thanks for that. My PC and OS are compatible so not sure what the problem is. I sent the details to Canon when I asked for help but not sure they actually looked at it!

I may be talking heresy, but I've never bothered with any of the manufacturer-supplied software that came with a digital camera, because they have been, well, rubbish! There are usually much better, and less bloated, pieces of free software to put pictures into libraries and to process them (e.g. IrfanView).

What special facilities does this Canon software have?

(Giving more information about what error details you get might assist, BTW...)
