Visa's for Kenya and Tanzania

Hi everyone,

I am traveling to Kenya and Tanzania with Explore in August. They recommend you use visa swift to get visa's sorted before you go, but when i ve costed it its aroung £150. Is this about right for the cost of a couple of visa's? Seems a bit steep to me. Also does anyone know if you have to get them before you travel or can you purchase them on arrival?

Thanks

Have you checked FCO travel advice for these destinations, or FAQs on Trip Advisor for info?

Visa swift will charge more - admin fees etc. But £150 is steep!

No idea for Kenya (in fact below link says Single entry visa is £20), but Tanzanian visa will cost you £38 if you do it in advance, or $50 on arrival in TZ. I would usually say if you are coming into a TZ airport you can easily get it there quite quickly, if you are coming into TZ via a land border on public transport get it in advance (as some people would worry about getting left behind!) However you are going with Explore so I don't think it matters - have you asked Explore if they prefer you to get your Visa's in advance?

You have plenty of time to get them in advance (but send them off asap don't wait til a couple of weeks before) - as Incapuppy says check out Trip Advisor, their forums are really good, but for Visa applications check out these:

(I'm back in Tanzania myself in 44 days, can't wait!!)

    Hi there

I was in Kenya last month and you could pay for the visa on arrival no problems, $25. I landed in Mombasa airport if that helps. Or you can post your visa off to London before you go (pay for postage that covers you & is trackable). Think this option was around £30 plus postage. So it was actually cheaper to pay on arrival! You went to the same customs booth as people who already had a visa in their passport, so time wise it was the same.

Trip advsior has great information on both areas & you can alwasy post questions on there. Many people to offer support & advice. Helped me plan my trip.

Hope this helps & have a great trip!
