My energy monitor arrived today, and having programmed in the tariffs I am addicted to watching it!

Swapping between money spent and kwh usage, I have saved 60w already just by turning off a few things.

So what's your's set to?

I leave mine set to Kwh.
60 watts may not seem like very much, 1 kilowatt hour every 16 hours.
    A 60 watt load over 12 months 24 hours a day would cost around £ 80.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I know, just amazing to see it on the monitor.

I might set it to the £/hr and see how much I spend in 24hrs.
Not much else to turn off now!

The E.on unit appears to display both kW and £ per day at the same time.

The data can also be downloaded onto a PC, they provide software to monitor usage over the months. But is it possible to use this data for more detailed interpretation?

I don't bother with these monitors but an amazing thing is the heated towel rail in the bathroom.

At 60w it is on 24/7/365 and were it drawing full current, it would use 60*24*365/1000=526 units, of which 7 are on economy 7 = 153 units and 373 are on full price. Cost for me would be 5.31+40.29=£45.60 a year. What it actually draws and costs I do not know.

I have been monitoring my electricity for nearly 3 months. I have cut by half my usage so well worth it for me. Like you Im addicted - very sad. I even have an excel spreadsheet and a 3d bar chart which I religiously fill in every morning. After 1 week my electricity has been halved - my kids always looking at it. I guess its a gadget but it has influenced their behaviour. Their Xbox uses loads!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
