Unable to open student account

I'm going to start at university this year as a mature student (over 30) but havent had any luck with the 2 banks i tried to open a student account. According to Halifax something about ccjs flashed up. But when i looked at experian for free nothing is coming up about ccjs only about a default payments for my credit card for which i am now on a reduced payment plan. This is the only "Blip" on the report.
As i cant pay off the debt straight away is there anyway i can still get a student account?
Oh and do ccjs show up on a report?
I wondered if the nice woman in the halifax got it wrong.

It might not be CCJs but might just be bad credit rating.
Halifax are difficult to get student accounts for as well.0 -
If you are starting your degree in September you are better off waiting until after A-level results day before applying again. You still might be able to get a student account but its generally easier once you have actually started your degree.0

an unsatisfied default is a massive 'blip' on a credit report
basically it says you can't pay your existing debts
so it's unlikely anyone else will want to give you an OD (especially an interest free one)
CCJs will show on a credit report...do you have any?
but as already said, its anyway better to wait until august when the a/l results are out and the banks are in student a/c mode.0 -
Thanks for everyones help. There is no CCJs on the report. Guess i was hoping that a reduced payment plan wouldnt be counted against me quite this much :S
I'll try again in september unless anyone else thinks of anything.
Many thanks again0 -
Waiting until the cows come home won't make the slightest difference if you have something adverse on your credit files.
You won't get a student account or at least one with any credit facilities.
18 year olds have not had a chance to wreck their credit files so most will be offered one but as you are in your 30's this will stand against you.0
