Has anyone had any experience of who is good for student room insurance? I've heard alot of companies dont do it, only got a quote from Endsleigh so far.

When I was in halls of residence, my parents' household insurance covered my possessions. This also applied (but I don't think it should have done ) when I moved into a shared house in the second year. Obviously this depends on whether you still live with your parents.... and what their insurance company is like.

Other friends got their insurance through Endsleigh as they had a desk on campus.

    Get a quote from http://www.cover4students.com

It's much cheaper then endsleigh for the same cover!

Ill have a word with the parents and see what theres covers. Endsleigh have lots of branches rather than call centres which is good, but to cover my valuables they want £160, could be worse.

The problem I have with student possessions insurance cover, is that they always seem to default to including term-times only. I live in my accommodation all year (even Christmas and Boxing day!) as I'm a mature student. Does anyone know of any decent insurance companies who'll cover this situation?
(p.s. hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread with an additional request :D ).

I found that my bank (HSBC) has given me a good rate (£90) for a whole year's cover including my laptop (which is my most worldly possession!). Try who you bank with first because they like having control of most of your life and will give you a good deal.

Snow Angel: Perhaps it would be cheaper for you to get a standard contents insurance? You can get cashback from Quidco and others if you shop around enough. Students contents cover are quite basic, possibly not enough for you.

Something ive recently been looking at. Main options are:

    Endsleigh
    HSBC
Barclays (Who I'm now with, cheaper and can pay monthly direct debit at no extra cost)
Royal Bank of Scotland / Natwest

-all available for online quotes also.

Main difference is usually endsleigh offer 'doors open' insurance whereas the others dont. be sure to check also what items are covered under parents home insurance, like watches etc.

Mobile phone insurance is alo usually cheaper and more direct through mobile provider.

I found that mobile phone insurance was cheaper through house insurance, typically £40 rather than £6 a month with provider.

Im glad you suggested Barclays, they only want £65 compared to £150+ so thanks! Still got to get a quote on parents tho.

In halls sometimes it's covered in the rent, both my two had first year free, my son has a student house which he got a great price for including his laptop. He is away on a field trip right now so I can't check who it's with.
