Buzzing noise from water pipes

In the last day or so the pipes running up to the bathroom are emitting a high pitched buzzing noise, like a chainsaw.
It seems to be related to the water flow as it stops for a second or two after the taps are run - Ive even adjusted the stopcock to see if its the pressure, and it seems to ease it off.
Any ideas as to what could suddenly started this and and what to do to stop it
(even turning the water pressure to nearly off doesn't stop it completely).

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Been having the same problem for almost a year when the neighbour in the flat above opens his mains tap and would also be grateful for any advice.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

I tend to get some noise when the ball valve on the cold water tank shuts off. This comes and goes, and as it mainly goes I have not bothered to find a cure.
Might be worth trying to locate where the noise is coming from, difficult as I suspect the noise propogates via the pipework through out the whole house. Would suggest you start in the loft and then move to the airing cupboard. It might turn out to be a worn ballvalve on the cold water tank.0 -
They did some work on local water mains recently. Since then we get a loud buzzing noise whenever two or more water outlets are open at the same time.
We have two bathrooms but have to make sure only one person is getting washed/using the toilet at one time, and can't use any water when the washer is filling up. It's frustrating! Here I go again on my own....0 -
I had a really wierd loud buzzing noise each time I flushed the toilet. I found it was the ballcock vibrating against the overflow pipe in the cistern. You would not believe how loud it was unless you heard it. I just adjusted the ballcock slightly so it didn't touch the overflow pipe and fixed it.0

The pipe runs from the stop tap , straight through the ceiling to the bathroom above, Ive taken the panel off the bath and it seems to be somewhere around about the point where the pipes comes through the floor.
Iam beginning to suspect that theres limescale in the pipe as the there seems to be a lot of lime scale coming out in the cold water. They did some work on local water mains recently. Since then we get a loud buzzing noise whenever two or more water outlets are open at the same time.
Try altering the pressure at the stop !!!!, it often solves probelms like yoursI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. Yes, that solved our problem - whenever someone flushed the toilet in one of the bathrooms got dreadfull vibration - turning on cold tap in bathroom stopped it on a temp basis but adjusting stop pressure - small amount - cured the problem.I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0 -

You didn't adjust the pressure! what you did was adjust the flow.
to adjust the pressure you need to fit a PRV.0 -

Hi
Could you tell me what a PRV is please? We're having this buzzing in our pipes when we run the hot water and only running the cold for awhile seems to stop it. Sometimes it carries on after we've turned the cold off too. Seems to be the hot tap that sets it off though and our neighbours are having the buzzing too (we're attached on that side).
Thanks
